When it comes to Sounthern recipes, the Southern Fried Chicken is always at the top of the list. We all know the Southern Fried Chicken is world famous. Everywhere we go, we will always find people enjoying a cruchy and juice piece.
The only place where we wouldn't find it is at home. But not anymore! Now you can do this at home by following the next steps and by having all the right ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 lbs of chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, wings, etc.)
- Pinula's Chicken seasoning
- 1 quart of buttermilk
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of Pinula's garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon of onion powder
- 1 tablespoon of dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
-
Rinse the chicken pieces under cold running water and pat them dry with paper towels.
-
Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour in the buttermilk. Make sure all the pieces are coated in the buttermilk. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight. It is key to add salt during each step of the fried chicken process to banishing blandness, while you can pump up the flavor even more with the chicken seasoning.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, and black pepper.
-
Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
-
Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk, letting any excess buttermilk drip off. Dip each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, making sure it's fully coated.
-
Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the chicken until it's golden brown on all sides and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes for drumsticks and thighs, and 8-10 minutes for wings.
-
Remove the chicken from the oil with tongs and place it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil.
-
Serve hot, with your favorite sides like mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and cornbread. Enjoy!
